Lets Get This Party Started!

Welcome to my first blog post!
Hey there! I’m Megan, the Founder of Pedal, and I’m so excited to share this adventure with you.
So, what is Pedal? Great question! We are a children’s clothing swap platform with a mission to make life easier for parents while keeping clothes out of landfills. Sounds like a win-win, right?
The Problem We All Know Too Well…
You know all that money you spend on cute outfits for your kiddos? The ones they wear, oh, maybe twice before hitting a growth spurt? Yep, been there. And then what? You’re left with a pile of perfectly good clothes that don’t fit, and tossing them just feels wrong. That’s where Pedal comes in! We help you get value from your kiddo’s outgrown clothes—without the hassle.
How It All Started…
Let’s rewind to November 2023. I had just been laid off from my tech sales job… for the third time in two years. Yikes. I found myself at a career crossroads, realizing I had been chasing paychecks without any real passion for what I was selling. And let me tell you, there is nothing worse than that Sunday night pit in your stomach.
So, I went on a mission to find work that truly mattered to me. I thought the answer was landing a job at a mission-driven company. But after months of job hunting, I kept running into the same roadblocks—companies wanted young, moldable sales reps, not someone with 20 years of experience.
Meanwhile, life was still moving. We decided to relocate to Charlotte, NC, and during the move, I stumbled upon a massive bin of my son Brady’s old clothes. Inside were everything from high-end, barely worn fall outfits to t-shirts with stains I swore weren’t there when I put them away. I didn’t want to throw anything out, but consignment shops wouldn’t take off-season clothes, and while I love donating, being out of work for six months made it tempting to try and recoup some of the cost of those pricey pieces.
So, I looked into my options and quickly realized:
-
There was no guarantee I’d get anything for my clothes.
-
Consignment shops had seasonal restrictions.
-
I’d have to put in way too much effort taking photos and posting items.
-
There were no solutions for recycling stained or damaged clothes.
And that’s when it hit me: There had to be a better way.
The Birth of Pedal
I started brainstorming how I could create a platform that:
✅ Repurposes or recycles damaged clothing
✅ Guarantees parents get something for the clothes they send in
✅ Requires minimal effort—because, let’s be honest, parents are busy
And just like that, Pedal was born!
Why Pedal is Different
Here’s why we’re making waves in the world of sustainable fashion:
🚲 No photo shoots required! Just purchase a Swap Bag, fill it up, send it back, and we’ll handle the rest. More time for you to enjoy a margarita (or three).
🚲 Everything earns at least 1 credit! Even those stained shirts and lonely socks—we’ll find a way to repurpose them. Our goal is to keep clothing waste out of landfills, period.
So, here we are! I’m thrilled to take you along on this journey as we launch Pedal and work toward a more sustainable (and stress-free) way to refresh your child’s wardrobe. Stick around—there’s so much more to come!
